|GUIDELINES FOR CMSA AWARDS
The CMSA has come up with the following guidelines to help clubs and individuals to understand the nomenclature used for titles at Cowboy Mounted Shooting Events. These guidelines are consistent with other equestrian sports and rodeo events. They are not mandatory, however it would benefit mounted shooting if everyone understood and used the same terminology when presenting awards.
- OVERALL CHAMPION - Should only be used for Champion Cowboy or Champion Cowgirl. The terminology Overall Champion should be used only for the ultimate win in an overall category and should not be used for class winners.
- RESERVE CHAMPION – Should only be used for second overall cowboy or cowgirl. Example: Reserve Champion Cowgirl is placed above the winners of Cowgirl Open or Cowgirl Limited. The Title Reserve Champion is inappropriate when used for a class second place.
- CLASS TITLES – Should be awarded as First Place, Second Place, Third Place, etc. Example: Class Four - First Place, Cowgirl Open - First Place, etc.
- TEAM TITLES – Should be referred to as First Place Team, Second Place Team etc.
Standardizing the nomenclature we use in the awarding of titles at Cowboy Mounted Shooting Competitions will be a good for the sport. Uniformity in the awarding of titles will help us all to understand the significance of the various titles that are available. It will also help us to develop a little more continuity for our highly competitive fast growing sport.
